Wearing proper base layers and mid layers can make the difference between a pleasant ride and major discomfort. In simplest terms, cooling layers help you stay cool in hot temperatures and heating layers help you stay warm in cold temperatures. Although seemingly counterproductive, wearing a proper technical cooling base layer under your riding jacket in hot weather helps maintain your natural body temperature and wick moisture off your body. Conversely, wearing thermal base and mid layers, keeps you warm without the need to bulk up by wearing layer on top of layer on top of layer of clothing.
