We get visited by people on the hunt for the perfect gift for their moto loving friends or family members on a regular basis. Often times, they are looking to buy items like helmets, gloves or jackets. Unless the person receiving the gift has given you specific instructions on what make, model and size they want, the chances of buying a product like that for someone and actually getting the fit right are slim to none. It’s best to stick to gifts that don’t require a precise fit and that would be universally useful for all motorcyclists. Here are some gift ideas for the bikers in your life:
Motorcycle Cleaning Products
Professional motorcycle washes are a rarity, therefore most riders have no other option other than washing their own bike. Many find it fun and therapeutic and using the right products can enhance the experience even further. MOTUL makes some of our favorite cleaning products for motorcycles. There are a ton of products to choose from including wash and wax sprays as well as polishers and even seat cleaners. These products would definitely come handy to anyone who rides.
Communication Devices
This type of gift should be reserved for someone you like a whole lot since a Bluetooth communication device is not the cheapest investment. But it’s definitely something that any rider who doesn’t already have one would be ecstatic to get as a gift. Bluetooth units range from devices that are simply used for listening to music and answering phone calls to being able to communicate with other riders and even filming during a ride. Extremely useful for any type and level of rider.
Motorcycle Backpacks
If you think all backpacks are alike, think again. Motorcycle backpacks are just that – backpacks made specifically for riding. Our favorite riding backpacks are made by Kriega. Not only are these bags of the highest quality and offer a 10 year warranty, they are also weather proof and made specifically for being on the bike. The harness system on these backpacks allows the bag to stay put and not shift around even as the rider leans from side to side on a twisty road.
Tire Gauge
Setting the correct tire pressures on a bike is crucially important for not only the safety of the rider but also longevity of the tire thread. Every rider should check their tire pressures before each rider and having the correct tool makes the process easy and accurate. Our pick for the best tire gauges are ones made by Motion Pro. They tend to be the most accurate, consistent and good quality.
Neck Wind Collar / Balaclava
This is an inexpensive and easy gift to get as it is mainly one-size-fits-all. For any motorcyclist that rides on a regular basis, having a neck wind collar is essential for comfort in cooler temperatures. You can bundle up into five layers of clothing but if your neck is exposed to the elements, you will still be cold. A product like Rev’It’s Juno wind collar for example offers great insulation and moisture managing, keeping the skin around the neck, chin and mouth warm and dry in both summer and winter.
Mid-Layers
This product is a bit tougher to get for someone as you will need to know the person’s size but the fit isn’t as precise as products like helmets, gloves or motorcycle jackets so the chances of you getting it right are pretty high. Technical motorcycle mid layers aren’t like your average sweaters or jackets. They are made specifically to work with motorcycle jackets to keep the rider warm and comfortable without adding a bulky feeling. They are usually very thin and compact yet extremely warm and can keep the rider comfortable on or off the bike. One of our recent favorites is the Rev’It! Climate 2 mid layer which is extremely comfortable and stylish.
Riding Socks
Socks made specifically for riders offer features you cannot find in a pair of Hanes socks from Walmart. They are compression socks that help keep the rider’s feet comfortable by reducing fatigue, wicking moisture and offering warmth in case of cooler temperatures. High end motorcycle socks last forever when properly maintained and dry exceptionally quickly allowing the rider to wash them overnight on a long trip.
Chain Maintenance Products
Having a motorcycle with a well maintained chain is crucially important and it’s an easy enough task for every rider to do on their own. Having the right products to do the job will definitely help. MOTUL offers a great verity of chain maintenance products that will make the job easy to do on a regular basis.
Rain Gear
For riders who ride rain or shine, having proper rain gear is essential. If you’ve ridden on a bike soaking wet, you already know how much it sucks. If you haven’t, trust us…it sucks! Getting the motorcyclist in your life a rain suit will give them the option to comfortably ride through everything from drizzles to downpours. It is an accessory every rider should own.
Light Mode Helmet Kits
As important as it is to be visible on the bike, most riders opt for dark gear and helmet colors because that’s the “cool” thing to do. The rider’s helmet is what is usually the most visible to drivers as it’s what is in their line of sight in the rear view mirror. Hi-Vis colored helmets don’t exactly scream “stylish” so what’s the alternative? Well, a company called Light-Mode offers LED light kits for helmets that not only make the rider extremely visible at night but they do it in a way that doesn’t take away from the “cool factor” of the rider. The Light Mode kits make the helmets look extremely futuristic, like something out of the movie Tron. We really dig this product.
Hi-Vis Vest
If the motorcyclist in your life is less concerned about looking cool and more concerned about being as visible as possible, a high visibility vest might be just what they need. Proper motorcycle hi-vis vests are fitted and don’t flop around when the rider is in motion. They are also equipped with reflective tape, making the rider even more visible at night.
